Rocco Dispirito Does Not Make Me Happy (but my soft serve ice cream recipe does!)
I sat down this morning to watch Rocco DiSpirito‘s show Now Eat This on NBC. I didn’t know he had a syndicated show, but have been really impressed with the work he does with kids and sugar consumption with his TED presentations, so I of course wanted to see what this newest endeavor of his was all about.
Aaaaaaand, it’s all about trash.
The show I watched was the story of the Pascowitz family.
Rocco’s first suggestion to them was “all natural” soft serve ice cream. And at first listen I was excited to hear his recipe and compare it to mine.
However comma
Not only does his recipe include cocoa powder, xanthan gum, instant coffee grounds and fat-free powdered milk (for calcium because apparently that’s the only way we as humans can get calcium….said very tongue in cheek), he uses green bananas.
Why you ask?
Because the carbs in green bananas have a low bio-availability threshold which inhibits the human body from absorbing all o them.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
Do we not already manipulate, oppress and confuse our bodies enough? Are we now so screwed up that we eat mother nature’s bounty in a state that it was not intended to eat- unripe????
And all in the name of NOT ABSORBING CARBS?!?!?
Ridiculous, preposterous, assinine and quite frankly makes me wonder if he, Rocko, has now sold out to Big Ag, the dairy industry and maybe even Monsanto themselves.
Here’s a soft serve recipe you can proudly eat and feed your masses:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend to the consistency you want:
6 RIPE frozen bananas
Cacoa nibs or powder (to taste, but start with 3 TBSP)
Almond butter (to taste, but start with 1/4 cup- which is the same as 3 TBSP…)
1/2 can coconut milk- add more if needed
2 TBSP Grade B Maple Syrup or honey
Feel free to add strawberries, any other fruit, dates, any whole food you can think of
Ok that’s all for my rant- going to eat some ice cream and gather my chi
